Dermato-Functional Physiotherapy
Dermato-Functional Physiotherapy is an area that deals with the evaluation and treatment of disorders that are based on changes in the functionality of the tegumentar system. Physiotherapy has begun to take an interest in this area with the objective, through its knowledge of anatomy and physiology, of providing a more effective and safer treatment for the patient. Dermatological diseases and aesthetic problems significantly affect self-esteem. Discomfort and psychoemotional effects are often more serious than the physical changes caused by the pathology, interfering negatively on the quality of life of the individual. Promoting well-being and quality of life should be a priority for the health professional, which is why Physiotherapy has become increasingly interested in this area.
The intervention of the Dermato-Functional Physiotherapy is divided in two great areas: repairing and aesthetics. The first one includes problems like:
- ulcers;
- scars;
- wounds;
- burns.
On the other hand, the aesthetics area is responsible for intervention in disturbances, such as
- Skin aging (wrinkles, spots and devitalized skin);
- Acne;
- Rosacea;
- Fiber edema gelóide (“cellulite”);
- Hyperlipodystrophy (“localized fat”);
- Flaccidity (dermal and muscular);
- Stretch marks;
- Lymphatic and/or venous edemas;
- Pre and post operative.
